My name is David D. Lucas. My friends call me Dave. Here is some information
that I would like to share with you about me. If you would like to contact
me, please email me at: ddlucas@lse.com.
I am married to my high school (Guyan Valley, Branchland, WV) sweet-heart Trena Adkins.
We have been married now for 12 years and have been blessed by God, especially with two wonderful boys
(Jared 4 years and Trenton 2 months). We currently live in central Ohio.
I grew up in wonderful West Virginia. Accepted Jesus Christ as my personal
savior (you should too if you have not already). Was in the US Air Force
for almost 6 years. Lived in West Virginia, Texas, Colorado, Maine, Pennsylvania,
and currently Ohio.
My wife and I are both Christians and attend
Hillview Free Will Baptist Church
in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. I enjoy spending time with my family and church family as well. One of the deacons of our church
maintains his own web page and a church page as well. You can check out Jack & Martha Gessells' Home Page. I have been set aside to become a deacon. I find this a great honor and opportunity to serve God. Lord willing, in a few months I will be ordained as a deacon.
I have been working in the computer field since in high school when
a friend of mine and I set up our teacher's first ever computer system.
I've been involved with computers since I was 13 years old when I got a
hold of my first computer (Timex Sinclair, remember that one?) with BASIC
and 4K of memory. I've worked with a variety of computers at home/school/work
(Sinclair, Color Computer, Tandy Model 1, Commodore, Amiga,
Atari, Apple, Franklin, IBM Sys/36, Nova 800, IBM Series/1, IBM 3083, IBM
E9000, Intel compatibles (80x86), Sun, MAC, AIX, HP, and PalmPilot). Now I own an Cyrix PR-166
with SVGA, sound card, 56Kbps modem/fax, 96MB of memory, and over 5GB of hard drive storage. I currently focus my programming in C++/Java (non-web) at home and use some K-Shell here and there. As I write this web page, it is being produced and tested on my Linux box. I have a spare parts box with runs Windows 95 for my wife and son. I have it networked to my Linux box using 10BaseT and coax.
I am a firm believer in GNU and Linux. I have set up my own domain (lse.com) with Linux and use UUCP to transfer
mail/news between my ISP (rmii)
and home. I chose "lse.com" as a domain name so, if I was tired of being salaried employee,
I would start my own business. LSE stands for Lucas Software Engineering. And I have a lot of items setup
to run my own business, except I still like the stability of working for a big company.
I have tried to avoid Microsoft and giving in to Bill Gates since their
attempt to take over the OS world. Eventually I had to give in and
buy Win95 in order to keep up with the Windows evolution and play games for my children. I have
done programming for Windows 3.1 using Borland 3.1 C++/OWL/Zinc and Visual
Basic 3.0. and OS/2 PM using Borland 1.0 C++. Since my work has shifted to my favorite operating systems (UNIX) using C++,
staying up with Microsoft has not been as important.
I have a variety of backgrounds in Computer Science. Since working on
the GPS project I have come to realize that I am a software engineer at
heart. I love to develop software frameworks and communication pieces.
I am a strong believer in object oriented analysis, design, and programming. I support SEI's Capability
Maturity Model (CMM) and have worked and helped obtain a Level 2 and 3 organization.
Ever since my statistics course, I have come to understand process improvement.
